Timothy Sowa
Digital Marketing Manager, Oxford Gene Technology

1. What do you like best about your job?

I enjoy the fast-paced, varied nature of my role, one day working on a big website development project, the next working on a multifaceted marketing campaign involving emails, social media and online advertising. Digital marketing is a constantly changing profession, so it never gets boring!

2. What are the biggest professional challenges you face, and how does ClickDimensions help you address those challenges?

As I work for a UK-based company, one of the biggest recent challenges has been getting ready for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – I don’t think I will be the only person who says this! ClickDimensions’ introduction of a subscription management opt-in method will greatly simplify the processes we are putting in place to make sure we don’t send emails to anyone who has opted-out of receiving specific marketing communications, ensuring we remain compliant with the GDPR.

3. What was your background before landing in your current role?

After completing my MA in Publishing, I worked in the publishing industry for a number of years in different roles, ending up in the marketing department at Oxford University Press (OUP). At OUP I really enjoyed working on a number of digital marketing projects, so I decided to focus on this area of marketing as I developed my career. My next marketing role, at JCS Online Resources, was digitally-focused, including running email campaigns and developing new content for the company website. And from there, I moved into my current role, managing the digital marketing activities at Oxford Gene Technology.

4. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Flying, definitely. Though I can be quite clumsy, so maybe it isn’t a sensible idea!

5. If you could live anywhere on this planet and take everything that you love with you, where would you choose to live and why?

Hmmm, that’s a difficult question! I love the sea, so I think I would choose to live in a house that is situated right next to a beach. Lots of nice weather would also be good, so one of the Caribbean islands should do nicely, thank you!
